Real-time Assessments that Increase Student Buy-in
About the Course
With the switch to digital learning and the use of video conference platforms (e.g. Zoom, Google Hangouts) to deliver instruction, every educator has likely experienced two BIG problems: low student engagement and a lack of formative assessment data needed to adjust instruction. This course is intended for educators of all content areas from grades two to twelve. In this course, participants will learn how to utilize Pear Deck, a Google Add on, to engage all students when instructing virtually, as well as gather the necessary formative assessment data during a virtual lesson to adjust instruction in real time. The knowledge acquired from this course can also be applied within the classroom when schools return to in-person instruction! Essentially this course will not only make the online virtual classroom feel more “normal,” but also it will provide you with beneficial tools for improving instruction in an in-person classroom.
About the Instructor
My name is Melissa Augustyn and I have been a social studies teacher for six years. I currently teach middle school just outside of Boston and I have my masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Connecticut. In the spring of the 2019-2020 school year my school made the switch to digital learning via video conference platforms, a switch that presented two main problems: low student engagement and a lack of formative assessment data needed to adjust instruction. With this said, I’ve created this course to help show you a way to easily manage and promote greater student engagement while gaining formative assessment data to make digital learning via Google Hangout/Zoom more effective and informative to you as a teacher.
